Shortlisted deals for the 2023 CEE Deals of the Year Awards

POTAMITISVEKRIS is delighted to share that we have been shortlisted for the ‘Deal of the Year – Greece’ category at this year’s CEE Legal Matters Awards, after advising the Sponsor on all Greek law matters relating to the construction, financing and operation of an 840MW CCGT project in Alexandroupolis. The power plant is expected to begin operations by 2026. The transaction team was led by partner Alexander Metallinos, supported by senior associate Sophia Thanou and associate Amalia Giannakopoulou.

This is a key project for the energy security of Greece and the wider Balkan region given that the plant will be directly connected to Gastrade’s FSRU (“Floating Storage and Gasification Unit”), thereby turning Alexandroupolis into an energy junction of electricity and natural gas networks, with the potential of supplying the domestic market and neighbouring countries in Southeastern Europe. In addition, the construction and operation of the plant will also contribute to meeting the European Green Deal targets and the transition to low-emission energy production.

CEE Legal Matters awards celebrate the lawyers and law firms working on the largest and most important deals in Central and Eastern Europe. The winners will be announced on the annual CEE Deals of the Year Banquet scheduled for April 25 in Warsaw.
